Dove Tail Bats swung by 75 big leaguers

The slow growing hard wood of Maine enables a Shirley company to make bats that are or have been swung by some of the biggest names in baseball including Bryce Harper and Eric Hosmer.

SHIRLEY (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- The Moosehead Lake Region of Maine has lots of slow growing hardwood. It is the primary reason Dove Tail Bats is growing rapidly in popularity among Major League players.

Paul Lancisi and his wife Theresa moved to Shirley with a furniture and cabinet making business.

They had two sons who played baseball.

"We were buying bats at big box stores," said Paul. "The quality just wasn't there."

So he started turning bats on his lathe. They were popular.

He worked his way through the senior leagues to high schools and colleges.

The MLB was next.

"Big leaguers don't big league you," Paul says with a smile.

"I approach them with respect and say, 'I have a tool that might be able to help you.'"
