PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Hockey season has arrived, with a professional team back in Maine.
The Maine Mariners kick off their inaugural ECHL season at the Cross Insurance Arena Saturday night at 6 p.m. against the Adirondack Thunder. Doors will open to the public at 5:00. Season ticket holders can get in at 4:45.
The last “Maine Mariners” game was an AHL contest on April 4th, 1992 right here at Cross Insurance Arena, when the Fredricton Canadiens defeated the Boston Bruins-affiliated Mariners, 12-1. The Bruins top farm club has played in Providence, Rhode Island ever since. Prior to tonight, the last professional hockey game at Cross Insurance Arena took place on April 23rd, 2016 when the Hershey Bears defeated the Portland Pirates 3-1 in a first round playoff game.
NEWS CENTER Maine, in partnership with The Maine Mariners, is providing 13 free tickets for each and every home game this season.
NEWS CENTER Maine's STORM CENTER Box will provide a fun and unforgettable time at a Maine Mariner's hockey game.
Applications are open to all Maine based 501(c)3 non profits and Maine youth through high school sports teams.
